Job Description


Tracking patient census and providing daily reports for hospital staff, patient billing, submitting and follow up with Third Party Payers.This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.   • Enters patient identification, demographic, and insurance information into the patient accounting system

  • Reviews and enters diagnosis codes according to information provided by

  • Physicians in process notes and as listed in the SDM IV and ICD-9 standards

  • Performs preliminary review of the source documents to determine that sufficient data is present for processing

  • Enters data charges from source documents into the patient accounting system.

  • Batch Charges and enter charges. Balances batches by comparing batch totals to source documents

  • Works with all areas of the organization in getting any necessary or requested documentation from patients, insurance carriers or other areas.

  • Interacts with Financial Counselors and Medical Records to obtain information necessary for billing

  • Assists in resolving department issues with the patient accounting system.

  • Maintain records of charges, payments, adjustments

  • Responds to all patient/insurance phone calls in a professional, efficient and courteous manner.

  • Documents appropriate notes in the billing system for every account, including action taken

  • Initiates contact with patients and/or third party carriers if there is a delay in responding to statements or claims

  • Contacts insurance carriers regarding non-payment or improper payment of claims

Job Requirements


  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • 2 years experience in Medical Billing, Medical Collections, Medical Billing Systems, General Office and Computer Data Entry
